coffee & tomatoes

here are the tomatoes i have planted so far:
1. creole 2. better bush 3. bush goliath 4. lemon boy 5. arkansas traveler 6. black krim 7. black prince 8. homestead 9. german johnson 10. striped german

i am at this tomato thing again…I swore off my tomato farmer status last year…the drought, the stink bugs, the texas hail storms, the water restrictions…I swore it off…then I had a bunch of trader joe ‘s coffee cans…started thinking…give these plants a good home, a good start /w/ some organic soil, epsom salt, rock phosphate and spread coffee grounds around them(saved by the hipster kids at local coffee shop)…just maybe i’ll have better luck than previous years…all the varieties i have planted so far have favorable reviews…can tolerate the heat, the humidity, the drought and for the most part are blight resistant…i know i am taking a chance by planting them in february  but they can easily be replaced if we get one of our freak texas freezes…i have also elevated them in pots that I hammered out the bottom…and wine boxes where i removed bottom slats…fingers crossed for some luck in the hope of tasty organic tomatoes…this summer, 2013!!!

the unexpected yukons!

buried some rotting, organic, petite golden yukon potatoes about 2 weeks ago and look what is growing as of february 5th, 2013...a very mild and pleasant winter in san antonio, texas...the cycle and wonder of life! looking forward to 70 days plus when they may produce some tasty taters...we will see what texas pests will try to destroy them! we live with the craziest creatures that spontaneously generate in the dark and greet us in the morning as we inspect our grounds and sip our cawfee! i will post pictures of such disturbing creatures if they generate and attack the crop!!!
